Early literacy is the foundational skill of a student’s academic career, so we have to get it right.

The reality, however, is that not many districts do yet.


The most recently available standardized assessment data shows that there are only three districts in the entire state in which at least 80% of third graders met or exceeded expectations in English Language Arts. Statewide, only 46.7% of third graders meet this benchmark.
